Hopkins Lions Clean Up Along Hwy 169
Hopkins Lions volunteers spent a few hours this morning picking up trash and roadside debris from Highway 169 between the Excelsior exit and Bren Road exit.
After fueling with some coffee and donuts, the volunteers donned on yellow vests, and picked up trash along the highway.
Around 25 large bags of trash were collected and gathered in piles, to be picked up by the city later on. The volunteers also found several large items that did not easily fit into bags, like car parts and carpeting.
The most common item found: empty alcohol containers! Very concerning indeed.
This year the Hopkins Lions welcomed a new (very) young volunteer: Leila Rifai, 22 months. Despite the fact that she hasn't fully mastered walking and bending over, Leila was there with her parents helping keep her community clean and learning how to be an engaged citizen.
The Hopkins Lions will be organizing more cleanup efforts in the near future, and we invite the public to participate. It is a great way to build community, meet fellow volunteers, and give back.
